Laser System Can See Around Corners

Laser System Can See Around Corners
Mar-08-18
Researchers have created a laser-based system that could let autonomous cars see around blind corners.

The imaging technology, from a team at Stanford University, works by emitting pulses of light around a corner and then capturing the reflected light. The captured light is then analyzed using a specialized algorithm that reduces the ambient ‘noise’ to recreate an image of the hidden object.

The team is now working to increase the speed of the scans and account for the difficulty of using the system in bright light.
