Researchers have created a self-folding structure triggered by different colors of light, allowing for more complex assemblies.
While light-triggered self-folding structures are not necessarily new, the folds on previous structures would all fold at once when exposed to light. To create more complicated structures, a team from North Carolina State University developed hinges coated with different colors of ink. Because individual colors absorb different wavelengths of light, the hinges will react only to certain colors, such as red light triggering a blue hinge.
