Listening to Bridge Health

Listening to Bridge Health
Nov-30-16
Researchers have developed a new way to monitor bridge wear and tear by listening to the sound of the disturbance.

Developed by a team from Clarkson University, the passive testing approach works via a system of accelerometers placed at different locations along the bridge. These accelerometers measure the amount of disturbance at each section of the bridge as a truck passes over it, allowing the team to detect damage or changes in the bridge structure by analyzing the vibrations.
