The Macaron smart measuring tape invention makes measuring dimensions easier for the visually impaired.
Developed by a team from Queensland University, the measuring device was inspired by one of their own members, who is visually impaired. The Macaron can be unrolled like a standard measuring tape, but the standard numbers on the tape itself are replaced by a digital readout on the body that displays the current distance being covered in real time. The user can also set predetermined distances via a companion app or voice input, and the data is all saved to a paired phone on command.
The Queensland team won the Australian James Dyson award for their Macaron tape measure.
