Magenta-Tinted Greenhouse Grows Plants and Harvests Energy

Magenta-Tinted Greenhouse Grows Plants and Harvests Energy
Nov-05-17
A solar panel-equipped magenta greenhouse is able to harvest solar energy while sheltering plants.

Developed by the University of Santa Cruz spinoff Soliculture, the panels of the greenhouse roof have been embedded with a magenta dye that absorbs blue and green light waves and transfers the energy to nearby photovoltaic strips. The energy produced by the stripes can be used to power devices in the greenhouse, and tests have shown plants are not harmed by the magenta light, with 20 percent even faring better than in normal light.
