Researchers have developed a microneedle patch able to inject immunotherapy medication directly into melanoma tumors.
Created in collaboration between two North Carolina Universities, the patch is embedded with an array of microneedles filled with the medication, as well as glucose oxidase The patch is then applied to the melanoma, which causes blood to enter the needles and trigger the glucose oxidase produce acid. This acid breaks down the microneedles and allows the antibodies to enter the tumor site in a steady and sustained way.
