A microrobot able to deliver stem cells to the brain could open the door to new approaches for treating brain disorders.
The robot was created using 3D-laser lithography, and can be moved through the brain via an external magnet. It was designed to be porous, which aids in the attachment and proliferation of stem cells, as well as helical in shape so it can move more easily through the body. In tests on cadaveric rat brains, the microrobot could be precisely controlled to travel through the arteries of the brain and deliver its cargo in the specified area.
