The MiNDS needle from MIT can deliver doses of medication directly to specific parts of the brain.
Typically, delivering drugs to the brain results in the entire brain receiving the dose, which is both inefficient and potentially harmful. As an alternative, the MiNDS (miniaturized neural drug delivery system) is made up of an array of several tiny channels only 30 micrometers in diameter. The channels are contained within a single cannula, which can then be connected to a small pump beneath the skin that allows the MiNDS to deliver different medications to specific areas of the brain on demand.
