Mobile Charging Robot Brings the Battery to the Car

Dec-27-19 A roving robot charging station concept from Volkswagen addresses the lack of charging points by bringing the battery to the car.

The concept is an evolution of an earlier all-in-one design, and features two distinct units: a self-driving robot and a battery wagon. After being summoned via an app or V2X communications, the robot will make its way to the car along with a fully charged battery wagon, connect the wagon, and leave it to charge. Because the bot is separate from the energy storage device, it is free to collect another battery wagon to tend to the next car in need.
