More Colorful Electrochromic Glass

More Colorful Electrochromic Glass
Feb-04-17
A new electrochromic glass made in an array of colors could make smart windows more responsive—and more attractive.

Electrochromic glass is able to shift from transparent to blue, keeping the sun out and interiors cool when desired. But the color is limited to a single shade of blue, and it takes a bit of time for the glass to fully change transparency.

To offer a more varied, and more efficient, alternative, the team from Fraunhofer created a new method of manufacturing the electrochromic glass, which includes using organic monomers mixed in a special resin. The process not only allows for a variety of colors, but also reduces the switching time from ten minutes to a little as twenty seconds.
