Morphing Drone Wings Inspired by Bats

Morphing Drone Wings Inspired by Bats
Feb-19-16
A new tiny drone design draws on the wings of bats to create a new kind of airplane wing.

Developed by a team from the University of Southampton, the wings were carefully crafted to mimic those of bats, and feature an electrically active polymer membrane that allows the wings to change in response to real time flight conditions. By shifting to suit the needs to the drone, the wings help save power and increase efficiency.
