MujoJet Delivers Vaccines with Jet-Spray

MujoJet Delivers Vaccines with Jet-Spray
Mar-10-17
The innovative MucoJet device “jet-releases” vaccines inside the mouth, with no need for needles—or doctors.

Developed by a team at UC Berkeley, the MucoJet consists of a small cylinder with a bulb on one end and the delivery nozzle on the other. To administer the vaccine, the patient holds the MucoJet against the inside of the cheek, then gently squeezes the bulb. This causes a small membrane inside the device to break, allowing the previously separate compartments of water and dry chemical propellant to mix and create pressure. The resulting pressure is powerful enough to push a piston and force the vaccine out of the nozzle and through the mucosal layer of the cheek.
