Nanocups Deliver Doses on Demand

Nanocups Deliver Doses on Demand
Sep-16-17
An innovative 3D fabrication method from MIT could let many different vaccines be delivered in a single dose.

The process, called SEAL (StampEd Assemble of polymer Layers), relies on biocompatible, cup-shaped microparticles set to degrade at specific times. Each of these cups can be filled with a different vaccine or drug, “capped,” and then injected into the body, where they will degrade as programmed and release their cargo.

Image: After the lids are deposited onto the cups, the particles are heated slightly to form a tight seal between the lids and cups. (Courtesy of the Langer lab)
