Nanodiamond Lubricant Last Forever

Nanodiamond Lubricant Last Forever
May-12-18
A dry lubricant made of nanodiamonds lasts indefinitely without losing its effectiveness.

Developed by a team at the Argonne National Laboratory, the dry lubricant was created by combining nanodiamonds with two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide layers, which then separated into molybdenum and sulfur. The result was onion-like spheres of carbon that can then be used as a dry lubricant, and with a friction ten times lower than nonstick coatings like fluoropolymers.

According to John Harvey, business development executive at Argonne, “The material the lubricant is used on is going to last longer, and I don't have to worry about liquid residue and throwing out oily rags as part of the clean-up process.”
