An innovative new method allows the aluminum alloy AA 7075 to be welded without compromising strength.
Almost as strong as steel and only one-third the weight, AA 7075 is an extremely useful and popular alloy. However, joining the alloy using heat—such as during welding—creates an uneven flow of its composing elements that can cause cracks. To overcome this limitation, the team from UCLA embedded titanium carbide nanoparticles into AA 7075 welding wires. This addition allows the material to be joined with heat without damage, opening the alloy up for more widespread use in mass production.
Please oh please stop calling things "innovative new". It is a very bad grammar. "Innovative" IS new: "adjective. 1(of a product, idea, etc.) featuring new methods; advanced and original". Posted by Alex Kwit on January 30, 2019
