Nanoparticles Kill Cancer with Heat

Nanoparticles Kill Cancer with Heat
Jul-01-18
Magnetic nanoparticles that kill cancer cells with heat could offer a new way to fight the disease.

The technique, called magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia, has been improved by researchers from the University of Buffalo with the development of a new, zinc ferrite nanoparticle. This nanoparticle, which reacts to low-strength magnetic fields, can be introduced into the tumor and then triggered to flip rapidly back and forth—creating enough heat to kill the cancer cells.
