Nanoporous Needles Could Treat Cancer

Nanoporous Needles Could Treat Cancer
Nov-10-17
Increasing the surface area of acupuncture needles with nanopores could offer a new treatment for cancer.

The new needle design, by a team from Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, features tiny holes in the needle that range from a micrometer to nanometer in size. These holes increase the surface area of the needle by about ten times, which in turn was shown to double the electrophysiological signal created by the needle’s stimulus.

In tests on mice induced to have cancer, treatment with the nanoporous needles resulted in a much lower incident of precancer vascular clusters than in mice in the control group.
