Nanostructured Non-Toxic Ink Suitable for Inkjet Printers

Nanostructured Non-Toxic Ink Suitable for Inkjet Printers
Feb-18-16
A new non-toxic, nanostructured ink inspired by butterfly wings could offer a non-toxic alternative compatible with inkjet printers.

Developed by a team from Russia’s ITMO University, the ink creates different colors via modifications in its nanostructure. Varying the thickness of the ink will cause it to reflect light so that the frequencies interfere, resulting in the appearance of different colors. Although nanostructured inks have been in the works for some time, the new ink is the first example that can be applied to a variety of surfaces and does not require high-temperature fixing.
