New Design Lets Drones Perch to Save Energy

Mar-17-19 An innovative new drone design gives the drones feet so they can perch to conserve energy.

The foot landing structure was created by an international team of researchers to allow drones to rest and save energy during missions. Inspired by birds, the team developed a landing gear able to accommodate different surfaces, enabling the drone to sit and turn off its motor while still gathering information with its onboard camera and other sensors.
