New Project Aims for More Comfortable Affordable Prostheses

New Project Aims for More Comfortable Affordable Prostheses
Mar-18-18
A new project from a team of international researchers aims to develop affordable, body-powered prostheses.

Body-powered prostheses are simple to build and maintain, which makes them ideal for use in lower- and middle-income countries, but can be uncomfortable to wear. As part of an EPSRC-funded project, the group hopes to address this issue by studying users in Jordan and Uganda to improve the socket design, efficiency and appearance of the devices. One way the team hopes to achieve that goal in part is by using smartphones to create a digital toolkit to study the prostheses and provide feedback to designers, users and clinicians.
