The pain and inconvenience of testing their blood sugar levels several times a day keep many diabetics from testing often enough.
MIT scientists have now shown that a non-invasive technique called Raman spectroscopy can directly measure glucose concentrations by shining near-infrared light on the skin.
The current machine, about the size of a printer, needs to be developed into a user-friendly device in order to make the technology available on a broad scale.
People could better manage their disease if a more convenient method of testing were available.
