Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Watch

Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Watch
Jun-19-13
A new blood pressure sensor about the size of a wristwatch should help ease the discomfort of patients who require continual blood pressure monitoring.

Designed by STBL Medical Research AG and a team from Empa, the device can be worn comfortably on the wrist, where it measures the patient’s blood pressure with an array of sensors. The sensors monitor the contact pressure, pulse and blood flow on the surface of the skin near the wrist.

To account for the variances of pressure that will occur naturally on the surface of the skin as the device is worn, the team created a sensor made from piezo-resistive fibers. This allows it to detect changes in pressure, convert the change to an electrical signal and transmit the data to the measuring device, increasing its measuring accuracy by more than 70 percent.

This sounds a great idea and the device looks light in weight. I like that it's actually just the size of a wristwatch so it would be easy for anyone to check their blood pressure. It would be easy to check it even when you're all by yourself.
