Non-Invasive Stomach Sensor

Non-Invasive Stomach Sensor
Mar-25-18
A 3D-printed, wearable stomach sensor able to monitor the electrical activity in the stomach could have benefits for both patients and their doctors.

The non-invasive device attaches to the outside of the stomach, where its ten small electrodes monitor the stomach’s electrical activity over a twenty-four hour period. In tests, the system proved as accurate as more invasive methods, while also allowing the patient to remain ambulatory and much more comfortable during the monitoring process.

According to the paper’s first author, Armen Gharibans, “We think our system will spark a new kind of medicine, where a gastroenterologist can quickly see where and when a part of the GI tract is showing abnormal rhythms and as a result make more accurate, faster and personalized diagnoses.”
