Non-toxic Graphene-Based Hair Dye

Non-toxic Graphene-Based Hair Dye
Mar-17-18
Graphene could find yet another use as a non-toxic, gentler hair dye.

Typical hair dyes work by opening the cuticle of the hairs to allow the dye to enter, which can make hair more fragile while also exposing the body to the toxic dye chemicals. As an alternative, the team from Northwestern University developed a dye that utilizes soft, flexible sheets of graphene, which wrap around the individual hairs and last through at least thirty washings.

Currently, the dye is available in the natural graphene shades of black and brown, but the team is working on creating other colors.
