Obalon Swallowable Balloon Replaces Surgery

Obalon Swallowable Balloon Replaces Surgery
Sep-19-16
The Obalon swallowable balloon for weight loss control offers a non-invasive alternative to gastric bypass surgery.

Developed by Obalon Therapeutics, the Obalon device is made up of a balloon attached to a tube that can be swallowed, and then inflated once it is in the stomach. The tube will detach after the device is inflated, and several balloons can be “delivered” to suit the needs of the patient. The balloon can then be removed after about six months via an endoscopy procedure.

The Obalon system has recently received FDA approval for use in the U.S.
