Omnidirectional Wireless Charger

Omnidirectional Wireless Charger
Jul-10-15
A new, omnidirectional wireless charging technology able to charge multiple devices at once could enable the devices to power-up automatically simply by being in range of the charger.

Although inductive charging is becoming a more common feature in today’s devices, the current technology requires that the device be keep parallel to the charger for maximum efficiency. In contrast, the omnidirectional transmitting technology developed by the team from KAIST makes use of a specialized reception coil: a pair of magnetic coils arranged perpendicular to each other instead of parallel. This arrangement creates a rotating magnetic field that allows the device to receive power from all directions when in range of the charger.
