Optical Forging Graphene

Optical Forging Graphene
Sep-26-17
Researchers have created a way to build three-dimensional graphene structures using lasers.

For graphene to be used in most applications, it needs to be in a 3D form. To make such structures more accessible, the research team developed an “optical forging” method that relies on lasers to deform the graphene material. The laser beam acts as a sort of hammer, pushing the graphene into a pyramid shape 200 times taller than the graphene sheet.

The optical forging method is also relatively inexpensive and simple to use, and does not add impurities to the graphene in any way.
