Paper-Based Supercapacitor

Paper-Based Supercapacitor
Oct-11-17
A new paper-based, flexible supercapacitor could help pave the way to wearable devices.

Developed by teams from Georgia Tech and Korea University, the supercapacitor was designed to offer a balance between power density and energy density. The researchers created the supercapacitor by dipping paper in a gold nanoparticle solution, and then coating it with layers of metal oxide energy storage materials.

According to the developers, the resulting metallized paper has a power density of 15.1 mW/cm2 and an energy density of 267.3 uW/cm2 , which significantly outperforms its counterparts. The material can also be bent and folded without damaging its conductivity, and the process can be scaled up.
