Paper Test Detects Viruses in Blood

Paper Test Detects Viruses in Blood
Feb-24-19
A paper-based diagnostic tool able to detect a virus in a drop of blood could have particular application in remote areas.

Developed by a team from Purdue University, the portable test is based on a paper-like material that will slowly draw in liquid. The blood sample is mixed with a buffer solution and heated before being exposed to the paper, which amplifies the RNA, while temperature sensors monitor the liquid’s progress across the sensing strips.
