Paragonix Sherpa Could Increase the Distance a Heart Can Travel
Feb-15-13
The Paragonix Sherpa is designed to increase the amount of time a heart can be preserved during transportation for transplant.

Currently, the distance a heart can travel for transplant is governed by the ischemic time, the time from heart donation to recipient implantation. The Paragonix Sherpa, which recently received clearance in the US, uses a combination of oxygen perfusion of organs and safe organ storage to preserve the heart, with the goal of eventually increasing the ischemic time to 12 hours. The Paragonix Sherpa can be used in conjunction with any other currently available organ preservation system, and is fully disposable, elimination problems with maintenance or cleaning.
