Password System Controlled by a Glance

Password System Controlled by a Glance
Oct-15-12
A new password system based on eye motion could one day lead to a secure security system that can be accessed with only a look.

The system, in development by Oleg Komogortsev of Texas State University-San Marcos, is based upon the idea that no two people trace a path with their eyes in exactly the same way. By recording eye motions, the system is able to analyze two features: fixation—when the eyes linger on an aspect of the screen, and saccades—the quick movements of the eye as it shifts between points. This information can be compared to previous eye-movement data to recognize the unique properties of an individual’s eye movements and allow, or deny, access.

The new system is superior to conventional eye scanners because those scanners can be fooled by a high resolution photo of the correct eye.
