PKG Data Logger Tracks Parkinson's Symptoms for Better Treatment

PKG Data Logger Tracks Parkinson's Symptoms for Better Treatment
Sep-15-14
The wrist-worn PKG Data Logger was designed to help Parkinson's patients and their doctors monitor the symptoms of the disease in order to determine the best course of treatment.

Developed by Global Kinetics, the Parkinson's KinetiGraph (PKG) Data Logger is designed to be worn for six to ten days, during which it automatically collects data on the patient's motions as well as remind the patient when to take their medication. The movement information is then translated into graphs that the physician can use to help determine how well the patient is responding to therapy and medication.

Previously, physicians had to rely on a clinical observation and the patient's own self-report to decide how well therapy and medications were working. Since many patients are unable to recall specific information about their symptoms, and because symptoms can vary greatly throughout the day, the PKG Data Logger could provide a more objective way to track how fast the disease is progressing.
