Pop-Up Endoscopic Robot

Pop-Up Endoscopic Robot
Aug-07-17
Researchers have created a soft robotic arm able to enter the body through an endoscope to perform lung or brain surgery.

The robot was created by a team at Harvard to address the limitations of the rigid tools currently used on surgical endoscopes. To offer more flexibility and greater patient safety, the pop-up robot is made up of soft fluidic microactuators that have been integrated into more rigid structures. This hybrid design allows for the required force output to manipulate tools and tissues, while remaining soft and flexible.
