Portable SIM Makes SIM Cards Wearable

Portable SIM Makes SIM Cards Wearable
Jun-15-14
The Portable SIM would eliminate the need for a separate SIM card for each mobile device, allowing individuals to transmit their identities easily between shared devices.

Still in the prototype stage, the Portable SIM is made up of a SIM card, Bluetooth and NFC modules. When the Portable SIM is brought near a mobile device, the owner's identity and subscription rights would be transmitted to the device via Bluetooth. This capability would allow office workers to share tablets and smartphones by easily and securely transferring the individual's credentials and passwords to the devices as needed, and then locking the user's phone number once the Bluetooth link is broken.

The development team, from NTT DOCOMO, is researching ways to make the device thinner so that it can be incorporated into wearable devices, as well as how it can be integrated into entertainment systems.
