PPlanter Give Relief While Feeding Plants

PPlanter Give Relief While Feeding Plants
Oct-28-12
The PPlanter was designed for use as an mobile public urinal, using the nitrogen from urine to nourish its plants.

Aimed primarily at homeless people and beer-drinkers, the “urban biofilter” features both a urinal and disposable funnel for the ladies and can be reconfigured to fit in different locations. The urine is fed into a bamboo filtration system that converts it to fertilizer, feeding the plants while eliminating odors, and the integrated sensors keep track of details like water use and urine flow. To encourage awareness and use, the sensor data can be accessed by smartphone—allowing users to feed the hungriest plants—and the urinal will light up when it is nearly empty.

The PPlanter won a $1000 funding grant at the San Francisco Urban Prototyping Festival and is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo.
