Psoriasis Sensor Looks Deeper

Psoriasis Sensor Looks Deeper
Jun-01-17
A psoriasis sensor able to peer beneath the skin without radiation could offer a new way to study and treat the disease.

The technology relies on RSOM (raster-scan optoacoustic mesoscopy), which uses laser pulses to gently heat the tissue and cause it to expand. This expansion creates ultrasound waves, which are captured and analyzed by the system to create a detailed image of the area beneath the skin. The RSOM device can be handheld by the physician, offering a deeper look at the disease without the use of harmful radiation.
