Regenerative Bandage Heals without Drugs

Regenerative Bandage Heals without Drugs
Jun-13-18
A regenerative bandage able to accelerate healing without drugs helps prevent chronic wounds.

Many people who suffer from diabetes can develop wounds that often become chronic if not treated properly. Developed by a team from Northwestern University, the new regenerative bandage helps heal these hard-to-treat wounds via a synthetic bit of protein that prompts cells to ‘adhere, migrate and proliferate.’ The bandage, which is in liquid form for application, will thicken to a gel when exposed to body heat, allowing the material to conform to the wound and create a scaffold for regenerating cells to grow on.

In tests, the new hydrogel bandage healed diabetic wounds up to 33 percent faster than the most popular option currently on the market, with no side effects.
