Release-and-Catch Drone Completes Test Flight

Release-and-Catch Drone Completes Test Flight
Feb-03-20
DARPA has completed the first test flight of the X-61A drone with the goal of being able to launch and air-recover multiple low-cost, reusable unmanned aerial systems (UASs), or "Gremlins."

The key objective is the ability to launch groups of UASs from a variety of military aircraft while out of range of adversaries, and to be able to retrieve the Gremlins in the air and return them to base where they could be prepared for their next mission within a 24 hour window.
