Small drones able to follow and monitor intruders could help fill in the gaps in the security of large buildings, following the intruder and recording the break-in as it happens.
The private drones, which would be rented by a Japanese security company, would take off after intruder alarms are tripped, flying directly to the scene and transmitting live images of the crime as it takes place. The drones are small, measuring 24 inches wide and weighing 3.5 pounds, and feature four sets of rotors as well as Secom-developed software, camera and other devices.
According to the company, the drones will allow factory owners greater security coverage by monitoring the areas not covered by static security cameras.
