Responsive Nanofiber Bandages Fight Chronic Wounds

Responsive Nanofiber Bandages Fight Chronic Wounds
Aug-04-18
Bandages embedded with structural nanofibers able to respond to their environment could speed wound healing.

Developed by a team from Texas A&M, the stimuli-responsive polymeric material can absorb and release medication in response to stimuli. The material contains the antibiotics inside tiny, biodegradable fibers on the material’s surface called micelles. In studies, the material was able to destroy pathogenic bacteria while also offering a promising structure to promote cellular growth and movement.
