Reusable SensoGlow Monitors UV Exposure

Reusable SensoGlow Monitors UV Exposure
May-26-18
The SensoGlow material monitors the quantity and quality of UV radiation to help prevent sunburn.

Developed by a team at the University of Turku, the SensoGlow material is made up of synthetic hackmanite, a photochromic mineral that can be specified to change color in response to UVA, UVB or UVC radiation. The amount of color change indicates the severity of the radiation exposure, based on stored excited electrons. And in contrast to other UV-monitoring materials, the SensoGlow material will also revert to its original, inactive state and neutral color when removed from the UV source, allowing it to be used over again.
