Reverse Filter Lets Large Objects Through

Reverse Filter Lets Large Objects Through
Aug-29-18
Researchers have created an innovative ‘reverse filter’ that could function as an emergency operating room.

The filter, created by a team from Penn State, is created from self-healing, liquid membranes suspended from a ring much like a soap bubble. The filter material relies on the kinetic energy of the object to determine if it will be allowed to pass, with larger objects’ greater kinetic energy allowing them through. The stabilized membrane could be made even stronger, and the material could have use as a sort of portable operating room, draping the body to allow surgical tools through while blocking germs.
