Robat Navigates by Sound

Robat Navigates by Sound
Sep-07-18
The bat-inspired Robat navigates its environment by sonar, opening the door to a new form of robotic explorer.

Developed by a team from Tel Aviv University, the Robat’s onboard ultrasonic speaker emits chirps that are received by a pair of microphones. The echoes of the chirps, which are emitted at the same frequency as a bats’, are analyzed by the bot’s artificial neural network to build a detailed map of its environment.
