Modeled on the pocketwatch, the Runcible circular smartphone was created to keep the user connected without taking their attention from the real world.
Designed by a team from Monohm, the Runcible is equipped with a high resolution screen, camera and phone. While it can perform most of the functions of today's smartphones—including accessing the Web and sending texts—it runs on Firefox, which means it uses mobile websites instead of apps. And because the Runcible was created to help eliminate technological distractions, it will not beep or otherwise alert the user to an incoming call or text.
Another key point in the Runcible's design is its removable parts, which enable it to be upgraded and repaired so it can last for decades—creating what the team calls a "heirloom" electronic device.
