Diagnosing illness at home is becoming increasingly popular, and the Scanadu SCOUT tricorder-like device will help make self-diagnosis easier and more precise.
The Scanadu SCOUT is the first in Scanadu’s product line, and can read vital signs in ten seconds simply by holding it to the person’s temple. It communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth, sending a variety of data including heart rate variability, pulse rate, temperature and blood oxygenation.
Other upcoming products still in the concept stage include the ScanaFLO, which turns a smartphone into a urine analysis reader, and the ScanFlu, which can test saliva for a variety of illnesses including Strep A and Influenza A and B. Both devices would be disposable, and the ScanaFLO would be sold over-the-counter.
