Seawater-Powered Battery Keeps Drones Underwater

Seawater-Powered Battery Keeps Drones Underwater
Jun-17-17
Open Water Power’s innovative seawater-powered battery could extend the range of underwater drones tenfold.

The OWP battery, which the team compares to a car’s engine, relies on an aluminum anode to generate electrons from seawater. The electrons can be harnessed to power the system, providing a range up to ten times that of current UAVs. The Open Water Power battery is also safer than typical lithium-based batteries, and less costly to make.

Are there sleeping batteries which can wait long periods until moisture, flooding, temperature, tremor, chemicals etc. power them and an alarm is made?
