SelfPaint System Paints Smaller Pieces

SelfPaint System Paints Smaller Pieces
Aug-03-17
The SelfPaint system automates the painting of individual pieces, reducing material use and energy consumption.

The Self Paint system was created to give assembly-line robots the ability to learn to paint individual objects and short-run batches—a task usually done by humans. The system, developed by the team at Fraunhofer, involves first taking a 3D scan of the object to determine the optimum paint volume needed, and then mapping out the path for the robot to follow. The final product is then inspected using terahertz technology, which can measure the thickness of wet paint without touching it.
