Sensor-Embedded 3D-Printed Prosthetic

Sensor-Embedded 3D-Printed Prosthetic
Apr-06-19
3D-printed prosthetics embedded with electronic sensors could open the door to more affordable, personalized prosthetics.

A team from Virginia Tech developed the method of integrating the sensors into the prosthetic using a conformal 3D printing technique, which allows materials to be deposited on curved surfaces. The placement of the sensors was guided using 3D scanning data, resulting in a personalized electronic prosthetic able to monitor function and patient comfort.
