Sensor-Equipped Glove Measures Stiffness

Sensor-Equipped Glove Measures Stiffness
Apr-22-17
A glove able to measure muscle stiffness objectively could help doctors determine the correct amount of medication and therapy.

Currently in the prototype phase, the glove is equipped with more than 300 pressure sensors able to detect the force being applied to the limb as the doctor moves it during the therapy session. An accelerometer measures the speed the moving limb, while a computer program calculates the muscle stiffness rating. By determining a consistent rating for muscle stiffness, the team hopes to help reduce the frequency of over- or under-prescribed medication.
