A bacteria shredder made of liquid nanoparticles could offer a way to fight bacteria without using antibiotics.
The liquid nanoparticles used by the team are also magnetic, and will shift from droplet form to a sharp shape that will puncture biofilms and the bacteria’s cell walls. The nanoparticles will not harm human cells, and the team believes the liquid could be applied as a coating to medical implants or even as an injectable treatment at the infection site.
